Description

This course offers a fun and judgment-free environment as a way to alleviate feelings of isolation and provides a safe space to express thoughts and feelings about personal and social changes through time. Intended for the disabled adult to improve memory and understanding of changes in society as they impact oneself, one's family and community.

Course Objectives

The student will be able to:

  1. Recall personal changes.
  2. Recall changes in society.
  3. Discuss impact of changes in technology, fashion, music and other aspects of popular culture.
  4. Develop and discuss changing social values in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

Course Content

  1. Recall personal changes
    1. Career opportunities being less gender determined
    2. Partnership possibilities expanded beyond stereotypes from '50s and '60s
  2. Recall changes in society
    1. Gender roles
    2. Reassessing historically significant monuments (streets, sports names, etc.)
  3. Discuss impact of changes in media, technology, fashion, music and other aspects of popular culture
    1. Computers
    2. Phones
    3. Modes of music transmission (turntables, CDs, MP3, etc.)
  4. Social values
    1. Changing moral standards
