A Message from the President

Welcome to Foothill College.

Thank you for choosing Foothill College as your partner in higher education. You are joining a community deeply committed to your success and one that values innovation, equity, and the transformative power of education.

This past year marked an important step forward in Foothill's evolution. We launched The Blueprint for Success, our strategic vision focused on improving student outcomes, closing equity gaps, and strengthening pathways that lead to economic mobility. Implementation is already underway, with early efforts focused on expanding access to high value transfer and career pathways and using data to better support students staying on their educational pathway and reaching completion. Our philosophy is that students do not need luck to succeed, just love! Students attending Foothill College receive services delivered with care, study in classrooms filled with dynamic instruction, and can take advantage of many opportunities for experiential learning, from studying in Argentina for a quarter to developing real-world business solution at the Foothill Innovation Challenge.

Foothill continues to build on its strong foundation as a leading community college in California and beyond. Since the opening of our Campus Center Student Services Hub, including The Owl's Nest Community Resource Center, Pride Center, BIPOC Center, Welcome Center, and Mental Health and Wellness Lounge, a holistic network of care has been in high use, supporting the whole student.

Our progress is reflected in both recognition and results. Foothill was once again named the top community college in California by Niche and continues to be recognized among the best in the Bay Area and the nation. At the same time, we are seeing encouraging gains in student outcomes, including improved course success and retention rates, increased completion of degrees and certificates, and continued strength in transfer. We awarded more than 1,000 Associate Degrees for Transfer this past year, and our students continue to transfer to highly selective universities in the University of California and California State University systems, as well as private universities across the country.

Foothill's career education and workforce programs are also delivering strong results. Students are completing programs that lead directly to employment in high-wage, high-demand fields, supported by deep partnerships with regional employers. From healthcare to emerging technologies, our graduates are entering the workforce with the skills and experience needed to contribute immediately and advance in their careers.

Foothill College offers a wide range of academic and career pathways designed to meet students where they are and help them move forward. Our bachelor's degree programs in Dental Hygiene and Respiratory Therapy, along with our career education programs and apprenticeships prepare students for high-wage careers in high-demand fields and contribute to the economic vitality of our region.

The heart of Foothill College is our people. Our faculty, classified professionals, and administrators are dedicated to creating an environment where students feel they belong, receive the support they need, and are empowered to achieve their goals. Across instruction and student services our teams work collaboratively to ensure every student can navigate their educational journey with confidence.

We also remain a national leader in innovative teaching and learning. Building on our long history in online education, Foothill provides flexible, high-quality instruction across in-person, online, and hybrid formats, expanding access while maintaining academic excellence.

Whether you begin your journey at our Los Altos Hills campus, at the Sunnyvale Center, or in our virtual classrooms, you are part of a community grounded in integrity, inclusion, curiosity, love and care. These values shape not only what we do, but how we do it.

We are honored to support you in your educational journey and look forward to all you will achieve.

Kristina Whalen, Ph.D.
