Non-Credit: Fine Art Photography

Program Description

The noncredit Certificate of Completion in Fine Art Photography provides opportunities for career preparation through courses that develop creative vision and technical photography skills aligned with current workforce needs in visual media and creative industries. Fine art photography skills, including digital capture, analog photographic processes, studio lighting, image editing, and portfolio development, are valued in fields such as galleries, museums, creative media production, arts organizations, publishing, and visual communication companies. The program provides a strong technical and conceptual foundation in photographic practice, including digital and film-based image-making, studio techniques, and photographic workflow. Program outcomes align with processional standards for photography production, presentation, and portfolio development, preparing students for working in freelance creative and commercial environments. No prerequisites are required for enrollment. Students who complete this noncredit certificate may also continue their education through additional credit or noncredit photography certificates or the Associate in Arts Degree in Photography.

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Students will be able to create photographic images using digital, analog, and studio lighting techniques, while demonstrating proper camera operation, exposure control, and lighting design.
  • Students will be able to conceptualize, plan, and produce cohesive photographic projects that communicate personal, cultural, or visual ideas.
  • Students will be able to apply digital and analog photographic workflows, including film processing, image selection, digital post-processing, darkroom printing, and preparation of both analog and/or digital work suitable for presentation.
  • Students will be able to produce a portfolio of photographic work that demonstrates technical proficiency, visual literacy, and readiness for entry-level opportunities in creative and commercial photographic environments.
