Course Objectives
The student will be able to:
A. demonstrate aseptic techniques and universal precautions pertaining to surgical procedures
B. memorize names; identify, properly handle, and maintain common surgical instruments
C. demonstrate proper techniques for the preparation of surgical packs, and operation of an autoclave and gas sterilizer
D. identify the parts and explain the use of common anesthetic equipment and circuits

Lab Content
A. Basic principles of facilities management and maintenance care of resident animals. Responsibilities will expand to include performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on resident animals.
B. Practical skills involving surgical assisting.

B. Laboratory equipped with examination tables and diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and supplies as needed.
