Student Learning Outcomes

  • Review different aspects of patient care including: suctioning and infection control through different media programs.
  • Support concurrent lecture and laboratory sessions through an alternative learning resource. Students will demonstrate knowledge of Nebulizer therapy and aerosol therapy.

Description

Second of seven courses paralleling content taught in courses in the Respiratory Therapy Program. Develop and strengthen concepts taught in the concurrent lecture and laboratory sessions of the program. Media materials will provide an alternative learning resource for non-traditional students. Intended for students in the Respiratory Therapy Program; enrollment is limited to students accepted in the program.

Course Objectives

The student will be able to:
A. Demonstrate and describe the following skills:
1. Oral and nasotracheal suctioning
2. Nebulizer therapy
3. Arterial punctures and lines
4. Aerosol therapy
5. Basic pharmacology
6. Infection control/universal precautions
7. Intubation
8. Bronchial hygiene therapy
9. Blood gas sampling
10. Aerosol therapy

Course Content

Modules cover theory, procedure, indications and contraindications for the following skills. Students will need to complete and pass the modules in order to show competency at this level.
A. Oral and nasotracheal suctioning module
B. Nebulizer therapy interactive software
C. Arterial punctures and lines interactive software
D. Aerosol therapy module
E. Basic pharmacology software module
F. Infection control/universal precautions software module
G. Intubation software module
H. Bronchial hygiene therapy
