Student Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate proper technique for passing, shooting and other water polo skills. Apply knowledge of water polo rules and strategy of offensive and defensive game situations. Improve overall physical fitness and endurance.
- Demonstrate increasing proficiency in the intermediate/advanced skills for waterpolo
Description
Course Objectives
The student will be able to:
A. Demonstrate proficiency in intermediate individual water polo skills
1. Ball handling
2. Dribbling
3. Passing
4. Blocking
5. Shooting
B. Participate in intermediate water polo drills necessary for skill development
C. Engage in conditioning and stretching exercises as they relate to intermediate level water polo
D. Demonstrate an understanding of the rules, scoring and etiquette for match play
E. Participate in water polo class competitions
Course Content
A. Intermediate Water Polo Skills
1. Ball handling
a. Refine elements of legal ball handling
b. Use drill work to develop dexterity and strength
c. Incorporate the egg-beater kick to develop proper body-positioning
2. Dribbling
a. Refine all elements of head up freestyle
b. Develop ability to transition from horizontal to vertical body-positioning
c. Use drill work to develop speed and ability to pass and receive passes while dribbling
3. Passing
a. Refine techniques and define rules
b. Use drill work to develop dexterity and strength
c. Refine different types of passing techniques including wet and dry passes
4. Shooting
a. Refine techniques and timing of shooting
b. Use drill work to develop dexterity and strength
c. Develop different types of shots, including: wet, dry, center (step-out, sweep, back-hand), penalty, and perimeter shooting
5. Blocking
a. Refine techniques of legal blocking
b. Use drill work to develop dexterity and strength
c. Develop players specifically at the goalie position
