- Assess construction tasks to anticipate potential silica exposure levels
- Implement a Written Exposure Control Plan (WECP) in compliance with OSHA 1926.1153
- Select engineering and administrative controls to eliminate or reduce silica dust
- Verify the proper use of respiratory protection equipment for affected workers
Description
This course covers topics related to the elements of the CEI Respirable Crystalline Silica Program, including health hazards, sources of possible exposure, and control measures.
Course Objectives
The student will be able to:
- Recognize silica hazards, follow required protective measures, and support compliance with CEI and regulatory standards.
- Assess silica risks and apply effective exposure controls when needed.
Course Content
- 3 hours training for Respirable Crystalline Silica Competent Person
- Understanding respirable crystalline silica hazards and health risks
- Regulatory requirements for Written Exposure Control Plans (OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1153)
- Evaluating work tasks and environments for potential silica exposure
- Anticipating exposure based on site-specific conditions and activities
- Selecting and implementing engineering and administrative controls
- Appropriate use of respiratory protection
- Documenting and updating the WECP
- Training and communication responsibilities
- CEI's roles and procedures for silica exposure prevention
- 1 hour training for Respirable Crystalline Silica
- Shorter version of Respirable Crystalline Silica Competent Person training
