Description

This course covers topics related to heat illness signs and symptoms, risk factors, and heat illness prevention protocols, including provisions for water, access to shade, rest periods and high heat protocols.

Course Objectives

The student will be able to:

  1. Recognize the signs and symptoms of heat illness.
  2. Understand contributing risk factors, and apply heat illness prevention protocols.
  3. Demonstrate familiarity with regulatory requirements regarding access to water, shade, rest breaks, and high heat procedures.
  4. Support a safe work environment by identifying, preventing, and responding appropriately to heat-related illnesses.

Course Content

  1. 1 hour training for Heat Illness Prevention
    1. Identification of heat illness signs and symptoms
    2. Environmental risk factors
    3. Heat illness prevention protocols
    4. Regulatory requirements for water, shade, and rest
    5. High heat procedures and monitoring; employee and supervisor responsibilities
    6. Emergency response to heat illness incidents
    7. Awareness and safety in hot work environments
  2. 1.5 hours training for Heat Illness for Supervisors
    1. Includes Heat Illness Prevention curriculum and communication protocols
    2. Emergency response planning for heat-related incidents

1. When taught in person, this training must be conducted in a clean classroom with internet access, necessary hardware and software, and course materials, if applicable.
2. When taught online, this course requires access to CEI's Learning Management System (Amplify), continuous access to a computer with the necessary software and hardware to view video content, and a reliable intranet connection.
