Description

This course provides instruction on the safe operation of aerial lifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other types of mobile scaffolding. The training covers inspection, application, and safe use of these platforms.

Course Objectives

The student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to safely operate Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), including aerial lifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and mobile scaffolding, in accordance with company policies, manufacturer guidelines, and applicable regulatory standards.

Course Content

  1. 2.5 hours training for Scissor Lift (MEWP) Operator
    1. Overview of MEWP types (scissor lifts, boom lifts, aerial platforms, mobile scaffolding)
    2. Responsibilities of MEWP operators
    3. Pre-operation inspection procedures
    4. Assessment of site conditions and platform stability
    5. Operation techniques, including platform controls and safe movement
    6. Fall protection requirements and PPE
    7. Emergency lowering procedures
    8. Hazard identification and mitigation (e.g., tip-overs, overhead obstructions, electrical hazards)
    9. Manufacturer safety instructions
    10. CEI and OSHA compliance
  2. 0.5 hour training for Scissor Lift (MEWP) Operator Renewal
    1. An abbreviated version for renewing a former operator
  3. 8 hours training for Scissor Lift (MEWP) Operator Trainer - CEI T-t-T
    1. Comprehensive and advanced training tailored for Train-the-Trainer (T-t-T)
  4. 1.5 hours training for MEWP Supervisor
    1. Advanced training tailored for supervisors

1. When taught in person, this training must be conducted in a clean classroom with internet access, necessary hardware and software, and course materials, if applicable.
