Description

This course covers topics related to Mobile Elevation Work Platform (MEWP) boom lift operator training and evaluation. The operator must familiarize themself with the user's manual and the specific boom lift.

Course Objectives

The student will be able to:

  1. Understand the safe operation and evaluation requirements for Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), specifically boom lifts.
  2. Become authorized to operate MEWPs (pending successful evaluation).
  3. Demonstrate proper use by referencing the user's manual and identifying key features of the specific equipment they are operating.
  4. Be a boom lift (MEWP) operator trainer once they complete an 8 hour training.

Course Content

  1. 2.5 hours training on Mobile Elevation Work Platform (MEWP) boom lift
    1. Essential training on the safe use and evaluation requirements for Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), with a focus on boom lifts
    2. Operator manuals
      1. Identifying key equipment features, and preparing supervisors for potential authorization following successful evaluation
  2. 0.5 hour renewal training of the Mobile Elevation Work Platform (MEWP) boom lift
    1. An abbreviated version for renewing a former operator
  3. 8 hours boom training on lift operator trainer
    1. Comprehensive training for trainers

1. When taught in person, applicable equipment and printed materials for students to use and take as reference.
2. When taught online, this course requires access to CEI's Learning Management System (Amplify), ongoing access to a computer with the necessary software and hardware to view video content, and a reliable intranet connection.
