Description

This course will cover the most common lighting control systems that CEI uses on projects, including the most effective way to install, best practices, and common mistakes. The course will also cover the CALCTP process and requirements for Title 24.

Course Objectives

The student will be able to:

  1. Review the basic T24 requirements and code updates.
  2. Review the most common UL-924 devices and most common lighting control systems.
  3. Understand the benefits and cost effectiveness of utilizing the prefab and constructability departments.
  4. Recognize who to go to for further questions and concerns.

  1. History and importance of lighting control
    1. Evolution of light systems
    2. Benefits of lighting control (energy efficiency, safety, sustainability)
    3. The growing importance of modern construction
  2. Understanding Title 24 - California Building Code Requirements
    1. Overview of Title 24 lighting control mandates
  3. Best practices and common pitfalls from CEI projects
    1. Lessons learned from real-world applications
    2. Avoiding common design and installation errors
  4. Overview of lighting control systems and components
  5. Leveraging preconstruction and constructability services
    1. How precon and constructability teams support lighting control planning

Special Facilities and/or Equipment

1. When taught in-person, clean classroom with monitor and printed material for students to take as reference materials.
2. When taught online, this course requires access to CEI's Learning Management System (Amplify), ongoing access to a computer with the necessary software and hardware to view video content, and a reliable intranet connection.
