  • Explain the foreman's role in planning and promoting job site safety
  • Apply the Hierarchy of Hazard Control to identify and mitigate workplace hazards
  • Complete job site observations
  • Set up dashboards on cell phone and computer to support safety efforts by tracking leading and lagging indicators

Description

This course equips foremen with the knowledge and tools to plan for safety, use the hierarchy of hazard control, create Safe Work Instructions (SWIs), and conduct effective morning huddles and toolbox meetings. The course also includes an overview of the SmartTagIt application to enhance project safety performance.

Course Objectives

The student will be able to:

  1. Identify different tools for safety planning (SWIs, JHAs, PRAs, and SmartTagIt [STI] dashboards) and describe how to use them.
  2. Deliver an effective morning huddle.
  3. Use STI application, reports, and dashboards.
  4. Start and use different functions of the SmartTagIt application.
  5. Fill out observations on a job site.
  6. Set up dashboards on their phone and computer to help their safety focus of leading and lagging indicators.

Course Content

  1. 1 hour on the SST: planning for safety training
    1. Roles and responsibilities for field leaders; different tools for safety planning (SWIs, JHAs, PRAs, and SmartTagIt dashboards) and how to use them
    2. Examples of morning huddles
  2. 30 minutes on the SST: SmartTagIt training
    1. Introduction to SmartTagIt
      1. Submitting job site safety observations
      2. How to create and submit a new observation
    2. Setting up dashboards for safety performance

Not applicable.

Special Facilities and/or Equipment

1. When taught in-person, clean classroom with monitor and printed material for students to take as reference materials.
2. When taught online, this course requires access to CEI's Learning Management System (Amplify), ongoing access to a computer with the necessary software and hardware to view video content, and a reliable intranet connection.
