Student Learning Outcomes

  • Identify and describe reproductive anatomy and physiology.
  • Describe normal size and pathology of the female reproductive system.
  • Describe embryology, normal and abnormalities in the first trimester

Description

Second course in the series of female pelvic anatomy and physiology. Continuation of DMS 54A. Includes anatomy and physiology related to the nongravid pelvis and first trimester obstetrics with an emphasis on the clinical presentation of the nongravid and gravid female patient. Intended for students in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program; enrollment is limited to students accepted in the program.

Course Objectives

The student will be able to:

  1. Describe the anatomy of the nongravid female pelvis
  2. Describe the physiology of the nongravid female pelvis
  3. Describe normal first trimester obstetric anatomy
  4. Describe abnormal first trimester obstetric anatomy
  5. Describe clinical signs and symptoms of the first trimester obstetric patient
  6. Describe the laboratory tests and findings for the first trimester obstetrical patient

  4. Abnormal first trimester obstetrical anatomy in multiple planes and projections
    1. Spontaneous abortion
    2. Ectopic pregnancy
    3. Molar pregnancy
  5. Clinical signs and symptoms for normal first trimester pregnancy
  6. Clinical signs and symptoms for abnormal first trimester pregnancy
  7. Laboratory tests and findings for first trimester pregnancy
    1. hCG values

  1. Assessments of sonographic protocols and procedures for nongravid and gravid first trimester obstetric patients
