  • Create movement sequences and express individuality through dance while exhibiting correct body placement and positions, flexibility, coordination and core strength.
  • Students will have practical experience in the production aspects of dance.

Description

Introduction to the exploration of the basic principles and theories of choreography and composition and the tools for defining the creative process.

Course Objectives

The student will be able to:

C. define the elements of the art of choreography and its impact on a variety of cultures
D. perform the choreography which culminates in a live dance experience

Lab Content

A. Demonstration and practice of the choreographic process by employing the fundamental elements and techniques of individual and group dance composition.
B. Demonstration and application of the knowledge to produce and perform a final dance project which may include costumes, lighting, props, sets, and live audience.
C. Demonstration and practice of proper body alignment and awareness.

Special Facilities and/or Equipment

A. Dance studio with hardwood floors
B. Sound equipment (CD and tape player), piano/drums (optional)
C. Dance shoes and dancewear appropriate for dance discipline
D. Video playback (VCR) or DVD

Method(s) of Evaluation

A. Dance technique will be assessed by direct instructor observation
B. Pre and post written evaluation to outline dance study
C. Regular and punctual attendance and participation
D. Mid-term and final examination of dance vocabulary and terminology
E. Journal to record progress and personal observations
F. Attendance and written critique of two live dance concerts
G. Choreography to culminate in performance before live audience
