Description
Course Objectives
The student will be able to:
- Define duct leakage testing
- Identify commonly used leakage standards
- Identify common components used in duct leakage testing
- Demonstrate the proper use of testing equipment
- Define duct pressure and sealant class
- Calculate surface area of a duct test section
- Document required information on a leakage test report
- Describe usage procedure for a duct leakage test kit
- Demonstrate methods of identifying duct leaks
- Properly seal duct leaks
- Properly perform a duct leakage test on sample duct system
Course Content
- Define duct leakage testing
- Define the process and methodology of duct leakage testing (Lec)
- Identify commonly used leakage standards
- Describe the SMACNA duct leakage testing methodology (Lec and Lab)
- Describe the percent of total flow duct leakage testing methodology (Lec and Lab)
- Describe the HERS/Title 24 duct leakage testing methodology (Lec and Lab)
- Discuss the roles and responsibilities of designers, technicians and contractors (Lec and Lab)
- Identify common components used in duct leakage testing
- Describe components in a duct leakage test kit (Lec and Lab)
- Demonstrate the proper use of testing equipment
- Properly connect a duct leakage test kit to a sample duct test section (Lec and Lab)
- Define duct pressure and sealant class
- Define pressure, sealant and leakage class per SMACNA (Lec and Lab)
- Calculate surface area of a duct test section

This is the standard sheet metal textbook/workbook used for this course. Although it may not be within five years of the required published date, it is the most current book used when teaching this course.
