  • A student will be able to identify common types of drawings.
  • A student will be able to describe the purpose of specifications.

Description

Study of technical drawings, piping drawings, building plans, specifications, and submittals. Interpretation of three view, plan view, elevation view, and isometric drawings is discussed. Hands-on exercises in the process of creating coordinated drawings, beginning with sketching principles, calculating and drawing, and finishing with drawing coordination and system design.

  4. Describe mechanical and electrical systems as they relate to blueprint reading
  5. Interpret isometric drawings
  6. Create isometric drawings

  1. Interpret technical drawings for proper installation of piping systems

  3. Describe architectural specifications
    1. Explain finish schedules
    2. Explain plot plan elevations
    3. Describe structural plans
  4. Describe mechanical and electrical systems as they relate to blueprint reading
    1. Identify plumbing symbols and criteria that could be found on a blueprint
    2. Describe symbols for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems
  5. Interpret isometric drawings
    1. Identify importance of isometric drawings
    2. Describe isometric drawings
    3. Convert plan elevation to isometric
  6. Create isometric drawings
    1. Explain isometric working sketches
    2. Draw isometric drawings
  7. Describe the process of creating coordinated drawings
    1. Define the process of creating coordinated drawings
    2. Create a coordinated drawing
    3. Create sleeve drawings and schedule
    4. Draw a floor plan that includes hydronic details

Lab Content

Students will work individually and in teams on drawing mechanical piping projects. Students will learn to create and coordinate piping drawings.

Although this textbook is older than 5 years, it conforms to national training standards and is considered seminal in the discipline. We will adopt the next edition, as it is published.
