Student Learning Outcomes
- A student will be able to demonstrate proper use of crane signals.
- A student will be able to describe the operation of pneumatic control valves.
- A student will be able to describe the operation of pneumatic thermostats.
The student will be able to:
A. Demonstrate ability to identify and tie various types of knots and hitches.
B. Define safety protocol relative to rigging operations.
C. Demonstrate crane signals.
D. Demonstrate the proper use and safety associated with hoisting and jacking equipment.
E. Identify proper rigging hardware and sling configurations.
F. Perform hands-on rigging operations using rigging equipment and machinery.
A. Demonstrate ability to identify and tie various types of knots and hitches
1. Four requirements of rope fastening
2. Three parts of a rope
3. Basic elements of knots
4. Tie various knots and hitches required for specific rigging operations
B. Define safety protocol relative to rigging operations
1. Rigging hazards

3. Duties and responsibilities of supervisor and rigging personnel
C. Demonstrate crane signals
1. Conditions requiring hand signals
2. Cranes and crane signals
3. International hand signals
D. Demonstrate the proper use and safety associated with hoisting and jacking equipment
1. Various types and use of rigging tools and devices
2. Appropriate maintenance and safety requirements
E. Identify proper rigging hardware and sling configurations
1. Safe sling configurations
2. Calculate safe working load limits of slings
3. Identify capacity and safe working load limits
F. Perform hands-on rigging operations using rigging equipment and machinery
1. Operate small rigging equipment, such as jacks, multi-ton, come a-longs, and chain falls
2. Operate large rigging equipment and machinery, such as cranes, boom trucks, and forklifts
Students will work individually and in teams on various projects using rigging equipment and machinery.
