Description

Basic principles of various hydronic systems, including equipment selection, pipe sizing, piping connections and proper installation methods. Start, test and balance procedures.

Course Objectives

The student will be able to:
A. Describe principles of hydronic heating.
B. Identify types of hydronic heating systems.
C. Identify the appropriate equipment and pipe sizing for hydronic system.
D. Describe the installation of equipment used in a hydronic system.
E. Describe the start, test, and balance procedures for hydronic systems.

A. Describe principles of hydronic heating

3. Forced circulation
B. Identify types of hydronic heating systems
1. Series loop
2. One-pipe
3. Two-pipe
C. Identify the appropriate equipment and pipe sizing for hydronic systems
1. Equipment layout for hydronic systems
2. Pipe sizing for hydronic systems
3. Compression tank sizing
4. Air separator sizing
5. Triple duty valves
6. Suction diffusers
D. Describe the installation of equipment used in a hydronic system
1. Pump installation techniques
2. Compression tank installation
3. Installation process of air separators
4. Make-up water line installation
E. Describe the start, test, and balance procedures for hydronic systems
1. Water balance procedures
2. Identify automatic controls
3. Testing and inspecting equipment in an installed hydronic system

Lab Content

Students will work individually and in teams on piping systems with emphasis on hydronic principals.
