Student Learning Outcomes

  • A successful student will be able to Calculate piping off-sets.
  • A successful student will be able to describe process required for sizing fuel gas piping.
  • A successful student will be able to identify components of building drainage systems.

Description

Review of basic math before introducing new concepts including pipe measuring and calculation of simple offsets. Students will learn fundamental scientific principles related to the installation and design of basic plumbing systems. Installation and design of fuel gas piping and drainage systems will also be studied.

Course Objectives

The student will be able to:
A. Perform basic mathematical calculations.
B. Describe pipe measuring terms and their application.
C. Demonstrate the use and application of piping formulas.
D. Describe properties and characteristics of water and steam.
E. Describe hydraulic and mechanical principles.
F. Define differences between metals, alloys and synthetics.
G. Define characteristics of fuel gases.
H. Define and identify fuel gas piping installations and materials.
I. Describe public health benefits and parameters of sewage disposal.
J. Explain basic design, layout and installation of building drainage systems.

Lab Content

Students will work individually and in teams on safe practices for installing and maintaining plumbing waste and vent systems.
