Student Learning Outcomes

  • Explain how specific iPad features can help students to master 10 specific grade level Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
  • Create 5 lessons or activities aligned with specific grade level Common Core State Standards that uses the iPad for student learning.
  • Identify 10 applications for iPad that can be used as a presentation delivery for teaching.

Description

Participants who are familiar with basic iPad use will integrate iPads into the teaching and learning process. Find, review and select applications and resources to create learning experiences aligned with Common Core State Standards. Use iPads for evaluation and assessment of student mastery. Develop course materials for student-centered activities. Build a virtual library of online resources, tips, and tricks.

Course Objectives

The student will be able to:
A. Customize iPad set-up, use, and management for educational environment.
B. Analyze iPad technology to aid students in mastery of Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and learning outcomes.
C. Analyze iPad for use as information delivery tool for teaching.
D. Create a lesson or activity aligned with CCSS that uses the iPad and specific applications.
E. Curate a library of online resources and applications for iPad and CCSS.
F. Develop an iPad based assessment tool.

B. Analyze how iPad technology can be used as a tool to aid students in mastery of Common Core Standards and learning outcomes.
1. Examine types of iPad applications that aid in meeting college and career readiness Common Core Standards in reading, writing, listening, speaking
2. Examine the types of iPad applications that demonstrate the practice and proficiencies required in Common Core Math Standards
3. Examine iPad applications that require higher order thinking skills as in Bloom's taxonomy
C. Analyze options for a lesson utilizing the iPad and specific applications aligned with standards.
1. Identify the standards and goals of the lesson
2. Choose iPad applications and/or features for instruction and for student use
3. Design and create a sample of a student-centered, standards-based lesson using iPad features and applications
D. Create a lesson or activity aligned with CCSS that uses the iPad and specific applications.
1. Find CCSS to use for a lesson
2. Write a learning goal and objective based on the standard
3. Determine iPad activities that support the standard
4. Develop the lesson
E. Curate a library of online resources and applications for iPad and CCSS.
1. Explore use of iTunesU to create a unit with instruction, links, video, interactive activities

F. Develop ways the iPad can be an effective assessment tool.
1. Identify iPad apps that can be used for tests and quizzes
2. Identify iPad features and iPad applications that can be used for performance-based assessment

Special Facilities and/or Equipment

A. When offered on/off campus: Lecture room equipped with iPads, LCD projector, whiteboard, and a demonstration computer connected online. Computer laboratories equipped with iPads, Windows and/or Macintosh computers, network server access, and printers.
B. When taught via the internet: Students must have current email accounts and/or ongoing access to computers with email software, web browsing capability, and access to the World Wide Web.

Method(s) of Evaluation

The student will demonstrate proficiency by:
A. Developing an integrated learner-centered, technology-enhanced lesson plan or project for use on iPads.
B. Presenting the project to peers for testing and feedback.
C. Making constructive contributions to class discussions.
D. Evaluating their course project.

Method(s) of Instruction

During periods of instruction the student will be:
A. Listening actively to lecture presentations delivered in a learner-centered instructional style.
B. Participating in facilitated discussions of readings or video presentations.
C. Engaged in collaborative learning using computer-based tools or social media to record notes or reflections and sharing ideas with peers.
D. Presenting in small group and whole class meetings.

When course is taught online: Additional information, notes, handouts, syllabus, assignments, tests, and other relevant course material will be delivered by email and on the World Wide Web, and discussion may be handled with internet communication tools.

 

Types and/or Examples of Required Reading, Writing, and Outside of Class Assignments

A. Writing assignments include an instructional project plan, peer evaluations with written reflections, and critical analysis of other educational projects.

B. Outside assignments include conducting project development, writing the instructional plan, reading, and participating in online peer collaboration activities.



When taught online these methods may take the form of video, audio, animation and web page presentations. Assignments will be submitted online as well.
