  • Recognize normal and abnormal anatomical structures.
  • List the differential diagnosis that is responsible for sonographic changes.

Description

Fifth course in the critique and pathology series. Continuation of DMS 60D. Includes advanced critique of abnormal anatomical images of second and third trimester obstetrics with an emphasis on the clinical presentation of the pregnant patient. Intended for students in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program; enrollment is limited to students accepted in the program.

Course Objectives

The student will be able to:

  1. Describe the abnormal findings in sonographic images of the second and third trimester pregnancy in oral communication
  2. Describe the normal and abnormal findings in sonographic images of the postpartum uterus in oral communication
  3. Explain the relationship of clinical history, symptoms, and laboratory findings with sonographic images of the abnormal second and third trimester pregnancy
  4. Demonstrate effective communication skills with clinical preceptors

  1. Sonographic images of abnormal fetus
    1. Fetal head and face
    2. Fetal chest and cardiovascular system
    3. Fetal abdomen
    4. Fetal skeletal system
    5. Multiple gestation
    6. Intrauterine growth restriction
    7. Genetic anomalies
  2. Sonographic images of the normal postpartum maternal uterus
  3. Sonographic images of the abnormal postpartum maternal uterus
  4. Clinical history, symptoms, and laboratory findings
    1. Fetal parameters
    2. Maternal parameters
  5. Communication skills
