Student Learning Outcomes

  • Recognize normal and abnormal anatomical structures.
  • List the differential diagnoses that are responsible for sonographic changes.

Description

Third course in the critique and pathology series. Continuation of DMS 60B. Includes critique of normal and abnormal small parts (thyroid, breast, scrotum) and first trimester obstetrics. Emphasis on the clinical presentation of the male and female patient. Intended for students in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program; enrollment is limited to students accepted in the program.

Course Objectives

The student will be able to:

  1. Describe the normal findings in sonographic images of the thyroid gland, breast, scrotum, and first trimester obstetrics
  2. Describe the abnormal findings in sonographic images of the thyroid gland, breast, scrotum, and first trimester obstetrics
  3. Explain the relationship of the clinical history, symptoms, and laboratory findings with sonographic images of small parts and first trimester findings
  4. Demonstrate effective communication skills with clinical preceptors
